June 12

Disrupting the System VII hero image

A provocative conversation to spark positive change.

Disrupting the System VII is online this year!

For our 7th Disrupting the System annual summit, Lazarex Cancer Foundation has made the decision to forgo an in-person gathering to put all our available resources to funding the crisis of need that exists for travel reimbursements to cancer clinical trials. We remain committed to driving positive and provocative conversations to promote equity, improve access and bring about much needed change in cancer care.

On June 12, 2024, we will release Disrupting the System VII – a Conversation Series on YouTube and our social media channels. Tune in anytime to hear from disruptors, innovators and changemakers who are driving positive change in the fight against cancer and cancer health disparities.

The Story Behind the Story

Lazarex founder Dana Dornsife and author Carmen Bogan discuss their collaborative project to inspire Black boys to become doctors: Willis Watson is a Wannabe. This new children’s picture book was published this year by Simon & Schuster. “If you can see it, you can be it.”

Improving Access to Cancer Clinical Trials – Erin Miller

Hear why the medical advances available through FDA cancer clinical trials remain elusive for the majority of cancer patients. Learn what you can do to make cancer clinical trials more equitable and accessible. Erin’s experience as a wife and mother dealing with her [late] husband’s cancer diagnosis and his subsequent death makes her uniquely qualified to support others in similar situations. It also fuels her passion for the Lazarex mission. Mike’s cancer journey revealed many gaps that exist for patients who need access to clinical trials for a chance at hope and life and sowed the seeds for the founding of Lazarex Cancer Foundation.

Lazarex Disruptor Awardee – Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson

2024 Lazarex Disruptor Awardee Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (D-FL) leads the Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys and is receiving the award for her work to inspire more Black men to go into the medical field.

Lazarex Disruptor Awardee – Nicholas St. Fleur

Hear from award-winning journalist Nicholas St. Fleur, who covers racial disparities for STAT and is the host of the Color Code podcast. He received the 2024 Disruptor Award for the work he does to focus on racism in the healthcare system – especially as it relates to clinical trials.
