In Your Eyes

In Your Eyes - a poem
My husband Mike, 44 years old, recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, holding our 4-year-old daughter Caitlyn (aka Noodles). He couldn’t stand having pictures taken post-diagnosis and would tear up every time. It was heartbreaking.

Sitting there

                In your rocking chair

Tears are in your eyes

Holding your beautiful child

                Normally you’d smile

But it feels like such a guise

You’d like an answer

                About why you got cancer

But the answers aren’t so clear

What comes to mind

                Is the too short time

To hold your babies near

I can see your sadness

                And all of the madness

Reflected in your face

Hold on my dear

                For the end is near

You will find a better place
