On Sunday, September 12, 2021 Lazarex Cancer Foundation held the “Treasure the Moments – A Journey Through Time” fundraiser.
This virtual 90 minute ‘journey through time’ themed event had all the elements of our galas of the past: signature cocktail, online auctions, entertainment, the very popular Party in a Box, Fund a Need, awards, inspirational messages from our Founder & CEO, and from our patients. It also marked the 15 year anniversary of the foundation.
We welcomed close to 400 attendees online and raised $374,000 thanks to several matching grants and very generous giving during our Fund A Need. The proceeds from this event will support cancer patients seeking life through clinical trial treatments by reimbursing their costs to travel to and from the trial locations, and providing assistance with identification of clinical trial options.
We traveled forward to 2071 and back to 1921 to follow an African American family’s cancer journey across generations. We learned how the challenges of the past influenced the present from a Historian and explored predictions and possibilities with a Futurist. Inspirational and Soulful music entertainment was provided by Bay Area recording artist, performer, host, songwriter, and actress Nate’ the Soulsanger and up and coming musician and vocalist Kenyon Duncan.
The Lazarex Hands of Hope Award was presented to Chris Kretz, owner of the local ACE Alamo Hardware stores for his many years of support through Ace’s “round up for cancer” fundraisers for Lazarex. The Lazarex Invictus award was presented to Chip & Susie Hollister, to Chip posthumously, and was accepted by Susie. Chip & Susie have been longtime volunteers for Lazarex.
