“Game Night for Good” Fundraiser a Win for Cancer Patients

Lazarex Cancer Foundation’s Treasure the Moments – Game Night for Good raises funds and spirits.

On September 24, 2022 we held Lazarex Cancer Foundation’s annual fundraiser. The 90 minute game night themed online event included program messages from CEO Stephanie Rivera and Founder and Chief Mission and Strategy Officer Dana Dornsife, award presentations, VIP (very important patient) clinical trial chronicles, game show challenges, and a philanthropy giving message from Lazarex volunteer and donor Andy Blick. An online silent auction provide alternative ways to support Lazarex in addition to the live Fund A Need.

Many thanks to all who participated, donated funds or items, and sponsored Game Night for Good. Doing this annual fundraiser for the 3rd time as virtual event was not the ideal scenario, but at the time for decision making it was anyone’s guess how Covid would play out. So deep appreciation goes out to all who showed up and supported the patients and programs of Lazarex. In less than 90 minutes, plus the silent auction, the Game Night for Good event raised $262,000 for our programs and the patients we assist to participate in cancer clinical trials.

A Brief Summary

Stephanie and Dana presented an update on our current, significant increase in new patients assisted and on the Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB program, currently active in Philadelphia, PA, Los Angeles and the East Bay area in CA. The Lazarex Cancer Wellness HUB aspires to change the way communities think about cancer, and the actions to take that reduce cancer burden and achieve health equity. The HUB is not just an information source – it functions as an actual hub within the community, bringing together the many resources and services required to manage the cancer journey and provide the greatest opportunity for a successful result.

Our Game Show Host and Emcee, Mike Hope from the Game Show Experience, kept the evening lively and entertaining with his high energy presence. He entertained early guests with a pre show game warm up activity and then opened the event with an introduction to Stephanie and Dana. Trivia games were played in between other the event presentations. Mike also led the live a Fund A Need.

Awards

Lazarex presented two awards at this event. Laura Evans Manatos, of Laura Evans Media, interviewed our awardees.

The Hands of Hope Award is presented to someone who has given generously of their time, skills and energy, assisting Lazarex Cancer Foundation to fulfill our mission and to make hope real for the patients that we serve. We were honored to present the 2022 Hands of Hope Award to Dr. Lourdes Baezconde-Garbanati, Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement at USC Norris in Los Angeles.

The Invictus Award is presented to a cancer survivor who inspires hope and advocates for the benefit all cancer patients. Lazarex was pleased to present the 2022 Invictus Award to California resident Nora Campanella. Nora is a Lazarex VIP (very important patient) and a wonderful human being.

Legacy Giving

Andy Blick, Philanthropy Advisor and volunteer and donor for Lazarex Cancer Foundation, spoke about legacy giving which can have a lasting and long term benefit for the Lazarex mission. Legacy giving at its essence is a planned future gift that designates some part of an individual’s estate as a donation to a nonprofit. It is an impactful way people can support the mission, programs and patients served by Lazarex Cancer Foundation.
